BOOK REVIEW - MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS

Poirot, a man dedicated to the profession of detective, travels on a train to Syria. He spends a few days on the train when, suddenly; they send him a letter telling him to return to England because he had a very urgent case. At that moment, Poirot, took the train towards England, called, Orient Express. There was something suspicious in that train, it was winter and there were no rooms to spend the days, normally that train in winter was always almost deserted. So, Bouc, his old friend and train director, gives him a room with another man named Mc Queen, who seems a bit disgusted to have a partner. Poirot spends a few days in the same room as Mc Queen, until at a stop, Bouc tells Poirot that they have added a car where there is a room, tells him to get his own and he would go to the car added with a doctor named Constantine. Poirot accepts his proposal and stays with his first class room. In the next room there was a millionaire man named Ratchett, who asks Poirot for help because he says they are threatening him, Ratchett shows him the gun he has to defend himself, but Poirot does not accept the millionaire man's request. That same night, Poirot hears a noise in Ratchett's room. He does not care and keeps sleeping until the train unexpectedly stops because of a snowstorm. Poirot could not sleep anymore, so he was about to ring the bell to ask for mineral water but at that moment another bell rang, coming from the end of the corridor. There was a woman saying to the manager of the car, Michel, that there was someone in her apartment and she was scared, that lady was named Hubbard, an American lady. When the lady finally calmed down, another bell rang, coming from the department of Ratchett, when the attendant of the car was heading towards the apartment, a voice was heard saying in French: It's nothing, I was wrong. That was when Poirot decided to call the manager to ask for his mineral water. The next morning, Poirot woke up and spoke with Bouc in his apartment. He explained the reason for the train stop and also that a crime had been committed on the train, Ratchett was dead. Poirot decided to take charge of the case and investigate. He decided to investigate his room first, which was locked inside and they had to fix it in order to get inside. In the room Ratchett was lying on the bed with twelve stabs on his body. They found remains of burned letters that Poirot managed to see the word Armstrong, a pipe cleaner and a handkerchief in which there was an embroidered H in the corner. A watch was also found in the pocket of Ratchett's pyjama pants, marked 01:15, according to Constantine, the doctor, that was the possible time of Ratchett's death. After inspecting the entire room, Poirot recalled the Armstrong case, a case that happened a few years ago in America, a little girl, Daisy, was murdered. As soon as Poirot discovered that, he began to listen to each passenger's statements. Some passengers claimed they had seen a woman in a scarlet kimono and dragons embroidered on it. Others declared that the handkerchief was not theirs or that they did not smoke with a pipe, until they discovered who was responsible for the handkerchief and who smoked a pipe. Little by little, Poirot discovered the true identity of each of the passengers, including Ratchett, who was actually Cassetti, responsible for the death of Daisy Armstrong and who was now dead.

MAGAZINE ARTICLE - GHOSTS

Ghosts are a very controversial topic and people around the world have different opinions about them.
Ghosts are the spirits of dead people and they can be either visible or invisible, or both of them. People have believed in them all over the history, but as science has evolved some of the mysterious things have been solved.
Marta:’ I generally don’t believe most of the videos on the internet as I know they are fake, but I respect people who do it and I was taught not to joke about these topics.’
Marc:’ I really think that ghosts are demons, because it’s what the Catholic religion says. And I am very Catholic person so I believe in them.

CORPUS WAR

After the corpus fest finishes, the action starts. People pick up the flowers from all the flower mats and they throw them to each other. Then the war starts. They organize groups with the people who have made the same flower mat. Each group is from thirty to fifty people. They pick all the flowers from their flower mat and they throw them to the other groups like in a war. Xavi, the retailer of the candy shop «La Tere», is who organises the corpus war.
We recommend to all people to make the flower mats first and then stay and take part throwing flowers of your flower mat in the corpus war.

CORPUS

Corpus is a traditional party or event in La Garriga. This consists on making flower carpets and the best carpet wins the event. Then a priest walks along the streets and over the flower carpets to bless them. After that we have the flower war which is throwing  flowers to other people, so often you get hurt. Normally a lot of people wear caps to protect their faces and heads and people often wear goggles to protect their eyes, too.
As a result I think it is one of the best events in La Garriga and when I go there, I have a very good day.

Traditional cars VS Electric/Eco cars

With old cars, if you have to change something, it is difficult to find. Old cars also pollute more than electric cars.

Old cars were smaller than new cars but they were more expensive because there were a few types of cars.

Electric cars don’t pollute so much but there are some that pollute a little bit and they are so expensive too. They are also bigger than the others.

In conclusion, we think that electric cars are more expensive and bigger but you save a lot of money on fuel and you don’t pollute.

THE DECISION OF OUR FUTURE

Today we will talk about the high school ending.
In not a lot of time we will end ESO and start batxillerat (or mòduls) and two years after we will go to college, so we already have to know what we want to study in the future.
First of all, we think we are too young to decide what we want to do in thirty years, but in the way the education is made, we have to know it now.
Secondly, we never had to make any important decision as difficult as this one, so we don't know how we should decide.
Plus, we aren't very informed about the options we have.
Some of us, the teenagers, have very clear what we want to study since we were young, but some others don't even know if they want to study numbers or letters and we have nobody to talk about it, because our parents didn't study in the same system that there is now, so who should we ask for opinion?
We think someone should talk to us and inform us and the education system should be changed.

A LETTER TO THE HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

Dear principal,
All the classes of 4th of ESO would like to ask you if we can go to an excursion to improve our knowledge in some subjects.
We all agree that it is a bit hard to organize an excursion for lots of people but we don’t have any outing this trimester. Also, we know that we have to study, but students sometimes need to relax and have fun. For these reasons, we think that the best option could be a learning excursion.
We have thought about it and after searching information and places to go, we decided to do a science outing. To improve this subject, we could go to the science museum. Apart of that, the museum has already opened a new section about genetic information and this is the unit that we are studying.
Yesterday, all of us voted to decide the day and the winner day was June 11th. We think that it’s a good day because we will have finished all the exams. If you want, you can change the day but if it is possible the week of Monday 11th it would be better.
We hope that you read it and think about it. Thank you for your attention.
